But despite the constant news stories, thousands of people are still clicking on infected links and compromising their data every day – not to mention the amount of mobile devices that get left on trains.
So why do we continue to take risks with our data when the stakes are so high? It’s down to a combination of things. Being constantly connected makes it hard to switch off from work, so having to worry about changing passwords yet again is just another problem to deal with. And with so many threats evolving every day, it’s hard to stay on top of all the tech you need to keep you safe – so lots of people just don’t bother. Sometimes it’s just easier to take the risk and hope it never happens to us.
Changing culture
The problem is, nobody is immune to cyber crime. Hackers have turned their interests from government bodies and huge multi-national corporations to smaller businesses and individuals, so you should never assume your data isn’t going to be of interest. If it’s important to you, chances are it will be interesting to someone else too – and the cyber criminals will never turn down a chance to find a willing buyer.
Cyber security isn’t just something to add to your to-do list. It’s now an essential business requirement that has to become a part of every organisation’s culture, and that’s going to take time. But like all changes, the more you repeat a new action the more likely it is to become second nature, and before you know it everyone in your company will be making better decisions.
Even if you’ve never really thought about cyber security before it doesn’t have to be a nightmare of a job that’s going to eat into your time and resources. An expert appraisal of your current IT set up will identify any areas of weakness and ways you can improve without having to spend a fortune. You can also choose to have a team of IT security professionals (like us!) take care of everything from security software and monitoring to staff training so you won’t have to worry about managing the threats yourself.

Creating a culture of security needs a combination of education, attitude and the right tools. When you get that combination right, you’ll sleep better at night.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”7572″ img_size=”600×400″ alignment=”center”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]
